2022 Ford Escape

The 2022 Ford Escape has four trim levels: the Escape S, Escape SE, Escape SEL, and Escape Titanium. Most of the trim levels have a hybrid and plug-in hybrid model available. The Escape S and SE have 17-inch chrome-painted aluminum wheels, rear privacy glass, and a front underbody spoiler. The mid-tier Escape SEL, meanwhile, has 18-inch machined-face aluminum wheels, side view mirror turn signal indicators, and heated side mirrors.

Buying the highest tier, the Escape Titanium, gets you 20-inch painted aluminum wheels roof rack rails, and a power liftgate with hands-free open/close functionality. You can also get an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a compass. Hybrid models feature dark gray lower cladding, with the side rocker panels having dark gray on top of silver and unique hybrid badging.

The 2022 Ford Escape has three available engine options: a 2-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine with 250 horsepower, a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine with 181 horsepower, and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 165 horsepower. The Escape Hybrid's engine is an Atkinson cycle four-cylinder, natural aspiration, diesel-electric powertrain that features a 10.6 kW motor coupled with a 45 kWh battery pack made of lithium, nickel, cobalt, and aluminum oxide. Its total system output is 149 gross horsepower and 133 kW. The Escape Hybrid can be driven in EV mode without the need to start the engine for more than 20 seconds.

The 2022 Ford Escape gets up to an EPA estimated 37 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway with the 2-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine. The non-hybrid 3.5-liter V-6 gets an EPA estimated 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

The 2022 Ford Escape comes with a variety of features depending on your trim level. For example, the Escape S has rear manual seat adjustment, a center console with an armrest, and six cup holders total. The Escape SE, meanwhile, has manual seats with driver-adjustable lumbar support and three additional auxiliary power outlets to charge your devices. The Escape SEL has heated front seats and exterior mirrors, while the Escape Titanium has an eight-inch touchscreen running the Ford Sync 3 system.

Available in all models is the point-of-view camera system which, when activated, shows what your rearview mirror sees directly on that screen. This eliminates blind spots in SUVs that occur because of a higher driver's seat position.

The Escape is built with a rigid body structure using high-strength steel along with crush zones, load-absorbing crumple zones, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. It also has front, side, and driver knee air bags, plus seat belts with pre-tensioners and force limiters to ensure occupants stay safe during a crash.
